Fans have pointed out that John Fury is “nowhere to be seen” after Oleksandr Usyk defeated his son Tyson Fury to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world in Saudi Arabia.

Usyk was declared the winner by a split decision on Saturday night after a 12-round fight in Riyadh.

The judges scored the bout 115-112 for Usyk, 114-113 for Fury, and 114-113 for Usyk, securing all four heavyweight belts for the 37-year-old.

Boxing fans quickly noted John Fury’s role in Tyson Fury’s camp following this first professional defeat.

Some suggested that Fury’s father was more of a hindrance than a help during the fight, distracting from the tactical advice provided by coach Andy Lee and trainer SugarHill Steward, potentially costing his son the match.

One fan commented: “Fury’s corner had two incredibly intelligent boxing minds in SugarHill and Andy Lee trying to offer strategic advice, only for John Fury to drown them out with ‘Use the jab, we’re fighting men’…”

Another fan added: “John Fury shouldn’t be anywhere near this, constantly talking over two guys who actually know what they’re talking about.”

A third fan asserted: “Tyson Fury needs to keep John Fury out of the training camp, the build-up, and especially out of his corner for the next fight! The man is a huge hindrance and distraction to the team.”

A clip showed Steward advising Fury before the final two rounds, instructing, “Don’t cross your god damn legs, be ready to punch,” and “Don’t be afraid to slide in, quit pulling back or you’ll get caught.”

John Fury could also be heard offering advice, repeatedly saying “light punches, light punches,” and talking over Steward’s instruction to “box and move,” while the corner told Fury he was winning the fight.

A fan suggested that John Fury’s comments contradicted Steward’s tactical advice, adding confusion for Tyson Fury in the final rounds.

“John Fury was basically contradicting what SugarHill was saying, telling Fury to box and move and throw light punches after Hill told him to take the fight to Usyk and throw power shots,” one fan wrote. “Embarrassing corner sideshow. That’s not how you win big fights.”

Another commented: “Steward needed to kick John Fury out of the corner, too many cooks and all that… John Fury isn’t even a decent cook. Embarrassing.”

Despite being told he was winning the fight going into the final two rounds, Fury ultimately lost on the judges’ scorecards.

Usyk was awarded the 11th round by the two judges who ultimately gave him the contest, but Fury was awarded the final round on each of their scorecards.

In addition to his vocal presence in Tyson’s corner during the fight, John Fury also caused controversy in the lead-up to the world heavyweight title showdown.

The 59-year-old headbutted a young member of Usyk’s camp in the Riyadh Hilton Hotel lobby on Tuesday, resulting in a bloodied face.

Boxing fans have called for severe discipline against Fury Sr. for the headbutt on the Ukrainian’s team member.

Some fans noted that while John Fury was very visible in the build-up, his presence seemed to have faded since Tyson’s defeat by Usyk.

“John Fury is very quiet this morning,” one fan observed.

“Not seen a thing of big John Fury since the verdict, where is he?” added another, while a third said, “Usyk is a machine… Fully deserved that win. John Fury nowhere to be seen… funny that.”
