Caitlin Clark has officially been left off the Team USA roster for the Olympic Games in Paris next month – and angry USA fans wasted no time in making their feelings clear.

Team USA announced the basketball roster on Tuesday, with White Lotus star Aubrey Plaza naming the team in a video. But all the attention from fans across the multiple Team USA posts on Tuesday was about the one player who was not named in the 12-person roster.

‘Not watching these games now. No desire now that you aren’t bringing @CaitlinClark22,’ said one response.

‘That’s it. After 30 years of being a die hard women’s USA basketball fan, I will have to cheer for Japan now. No integrity not having Clark on this team,’ said a different fan in the replies.

‘Best player in the world left us because of jealousy and racism. Sad.’

Another fan said: ‘It is beating a dead horse at this point. But yes. Caitlin should be on this team.

‘Team USA basketball needs to at least face the music here. And the people involved in the team selections need to be made available to the media for questions.’

A different response read: ‘You missed the greatest opportunity in the history of women’s basketball.

‘There has never been an audience phenomenon like CC. Never has a girl basketball player been a national topic during the NBA playoffs. You decide to miss this unique opportunity. Congrats.’

Curiously, Plaza seemed to allude to the hype Clark has brought to women’s basketball in her video about the team.

‘I’m not sure if you’ve heard but women’s basketball is having a moment,’ she says at the start of the clip. ‘And it’s not about to end.

‘This summer, it is all about the USA women’s basketball team. In Paris, they are going for an eighth straight gold.’

‘I’m excited for the girls that are on the team,’ Clark said on Sunday.

‘I know it’s the most competitive team in the world and I know it could’ve gone either way, me being on the team or me not being on the team.

‘I’m excited for them, gonna be rooting them on to win gold. I was a kid that grew up watching the Olympics, it’ll be fun to watch them.

‘Honestly, no disappointment. I think it just gives you something to work for. It’s a dream, hopefully one day I can be there. I think it’s just a little bit more motivation. You remember that and hopefully when four years comes back around, I can be there.’

Clark also revealed that she was already aware she hadn’t been picked before the news broke.

‘They called me and let me know before everything came out, which was really respectful of them and I appreciated that,’ Clark continued.

‘They did the same for every girl that made the team or every girl that didn’t make the team. There’s a lot of players in the Olympic pool, so it wasn’t like I was the only one they had to call. They had to make quite a few calls.’
