As per sources, ESPN is set to shake up the “Monday Night Football” pregame, just a year after a complete makeover of the set under the stewardship of Scott Van Pelt.
Andrew Marchand of The Athletic reported Jason Kelce could possibly replace ESPN analyst Robert Griffin III as the network plans to refresh its Monday Night Football crew.
The report suggested Griffin III’s place in MNF is in jeopardy, as the network is strongly pursuing retired Philadelphia Eagles center Kelce for Monday nights. Marchand also added, that not only ESPN is after Kelce but NBC, CBS, and Amazon Prime Video are interested.
Kelce ended his Hall of Fame career after the 2023 NFL season and has been gaining popularity with his New Heights podcast with his brother Travis. Seemingly a real interest in bringing the former offensive lineman into an NFL analyst role.
The current ESPN Monday night pregame crew are Griffin, Marcus Spears, and the recently re-signed Ryan Clark.
Meanwhile, Spears and Clark are expected to remain on board the futures of Griffin and former wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald seem to be unclear.
Marchand reports also highlighted, that Fitzgerald, who had a part-time role on the show, is currently not under contract and his future on the program is uncertain. His contract ended in February and has not been renewed yet.
His part-time role on ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” is in limbo, as per the executives, Fitzgerald had appeared on about one-third of the shows during the season.
Earlier, ESPN had informed Fitzgerald that they wanted to see how the rest of their MNF pregame lineup shapes up before making a final decision on a new deal.
ESPN also planning to continue pursuing Bill Belichick, however, Belichick has told networks he is disinclined to be part of a regular studio show, according to officials briefed on the talks.
