Justin Bieber has hit out at Eminem, claiming he “doesn’t understand” the “new generation of rap”.
The 25-year-old musician took a swipe at the veteran rapper in response to a diss track on Eminem’s latest album Kamikaze, in which the star takes aim at a handful of contemporary rap stars including Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Pump and Lil Xan.
Titled The Ringer, the 2018 release sees Eminem (real name Marshall Mathers) call out the younger rappers for imitating Lil Wayne with their “mumbling” style.
“Lil Pump, Lil Xan imitate Lil Wayne,” he raps. “I should aim at everybody in the game, pick a name, I’m fed up with being humble.

“And rumour is I’m hungry, I’m sure you heard bumblings, I heard you wanna rumble like it’s an empty stomach.
“I heard your mumblin’ but it’s jumbled in mumbo-jumbo, the era that I’m from will pummel you, that’s what it’s comin’ to.”
Wading into the feud yesterday, Bieber posted a screenshot on Instagram Stories which revealed that he was listening to The Ringer, then shared his views on Eminem’s disses.
“I just like Ems [sic] flow but don’t like that he’s dissing new rappers,” he wrote in a post shared afterwards.
“I like the new generation of rap he just doesn’t understand it.”
Though Eminem is yet to respond to Bieber’s comments, the rapper’s fans embraced the opportunity to poke fun at the singer.
“I’d pay money to watch Justin Bieber explain anything about hip hop to Eminem,” one wrote on Twitter.
“Does anyone seriously believe Eminem cares about Justin Bieber’s opinion on rap?” another asked.
The Canadian singer sent fans into a frenzy earlier this week when he appeared to tease an upcoming collaboration with Ed Sheeran.
Bieber shared a tweet featuring two pictures showing himself and Sheeran wearing colourful printed shirts standing in front of green screens, captioning the post with “10”.
Sheeran’s manager Stuart Camp previously shared the same shot of Sheeran on Instagram alongside three tractor emojis, with the caption: “The guy! Something is happening.”
