Dustin Poirier has etched his name as a fan favorite and an evergreen contender in the lightweight division.

He now gears up for his third lightweight title shot against the formidable Islam Makhachev at UFC 302.

Poirier has an unconventional plan in mind – to secure a guillotine choke victory and commemorate it with a big monument in his front yard.

Ariel Helwani recently interviewed the ‘Diamond’ on The MMA Hour. Dustin Poirier revealed that he would love to finish Makhachev via a guillotine choke.

He also revealed his plans to construct a bronze statue in his front yard depicting the guillotine choke victory.

I’m gonna get one. I’m gonna get [a guillotine]... I’ll get a bronze statue in my front yard of me in the guillotine position…You miss all the ones you don’t jump, man…. [Mateusz] Gamrot and Mike Brown are telling me to stop.

The guillotine choke has eluded Poirier throughout his illustrious career and this is not for the lack of trying.

He tried that multiple times, although unsuccessfully in his last fight against Benoit Saint-Denis.

However, his determination to add this iconic move to his repertoire has only grown stronger. He already issued a statement warning Islam Makhachev of his jumping guillotine.

Poirier’s confidence stems from his unwavering belief in himself. Poirier remains undeterred despite facing the daunting challenge of Islam Makhachev, who has been hailed as the heir to Khabib Nurmagomedov’s legacy.

A bronze statue, immortalizing the potential moment of a guillotine win would serve as a testament to Poirier’s relentless pursuit of greatness.

Makhachev is the reigning lightweight champion. He had previously stated that Poirier’s style presented a favorable matchup for him.

He believed that Poirier’s grappling was weak and he would exploit that weak link. However Poirier wasn’t about to take those comments lying down. He responded to these comments in a recent interview:

I don’t know, maybe he [Islam Makhachev] goes about all fights like this. But, I can finish and beat anybody at 155 lbs in the world, I really believe that. He doesn’t have to believe it, I am the one who has to believe it and I’m the one who has to go out there and beat his a*s, and I can do that.

Poirier’s confidence is well-founded as he boasts an impressive resume and vast experience inside the Octagon.

While Makhachev may be favored by oddsmakers, Poirier’s resilience and determination are unwavering. After all.

He’s no stranger to overcoming adversity, having fought his way through numerous challenges throughout his illustrious career.
