WNBA fans are split after CBS Sports released its latest rookie ranking that has Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese beating her Indiana Fever counterpart in Caitlin Clark.
In the rankings released Tuesday, Reese was rated no. 1 while Clark followed suit at no. 2. Rickea Jackson, Cameron Brink and Aaliyah Edwards round out the Top 5, respectively.
In explaining the ranking, CBS Sports noted that “Reese’s consistency and ability to contribute on both ends of the court are some of the most impressive parts of her game.”
Meanwhile, as for Clark, CBS noted that while the Fever star continues to put up big numbers, her up-and-down performances have really affected her status. Not to mention that she’s a turnover magnet with 5.4 per outing.
While Angel Reese’s fan agree with the ranking, several Caitlin Clark fans couldn’t help but point out how the Fever rising star is actually dominating in several key statistical areas.
Clark is averaging 16.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.5 steals and 0.8 blocks on 37/33/90 shooting splits. Reese, on the other hand, is averaging 11.6 points, 9.6 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.9 steals and 0.1 blocks on 35/0/71 shooting splits.
Aside from rebounds and steals, Clark is ahead of the other key stats against Reese.
“People can hate this all they want but Angel is literally the most consistent of the rookies and is getting better with every single game. People who actually watch the games will know that, not bandwagon fans,” a Reese fan declared.
A commenter added, “Hey, I totally agreed!! #1. Angel. But, #2 should be Brink if LA Spark!! Play, has been almost as good as Angel Reese. #3. Catilin.”
Other critics, however, were quick to defend Clark and point to the stats.

“I’ll take 16 pts, 6 assists, 5 rebounds a game over 11 points, 2 assists, and 10 rebounds personally,” a Clark fan declared. Another one said, “There is no planet on which Reese is better than Caitlin. Otherwise I’m good!”
A third Clark diehard said, “CC is number 1, period. Never watch WNBA coz it so boring but because of CC I started to love it. There is something about CC that these WNBA players don’t have it. Real talk.”
For what it’s worth, Clark won Rookie of the Month in May, so she’s still ahead of the Rookie of the Year race. However, considering the way that the likes of Reese, Brink, Jackson and Edwards are playing, it won’t be an easy road for her to win Rookie of the Year.
As for the Clark vs. Reese debate, the two will meet again on Sunday, June 1, so whoever does better in that showdown should have an edge over the other.
